Critiquing Nature Helps No One.

“…Well yeah but nature is a social construct anyway.”

Let me get this straight.

We’re mourning only at the dawn of a new mass-extinction event.

We’re witnessing the effects of anthropogenic climate change the world over.

We’re bystanders in watching the homes and habitats of our more-than-human neighbors disappear,

We watch as our fields are reduced to lots and business parks

Our rivers reduced to waste and sewage,

Our valleys reduced to fuel utopias along the interstate

And a night sky so thoroughly polluted,

Our nocturnal neighbors live a life of exhaustion.

Beautiful ecosystems,

Now lifeless deserts to the beings who dwelled there since time immemorial…

And you think that now is the best time,

In all your intellect,

And all your wisdom,

To convince me that nature is an illusion,

And therefore caring for it is a waste of time?

Nihilism is always easier than giving a shit, isn’t it?
